Medford Rogues News Release

MEDFORD, OR - The Medford Rogues kept their playoff hopes alive after seven scoreless innings by starting pitcher Chad Hockin gave Medford a 5-0 win over the Kitsap Bluejackets in the second game of a three-game series that ends the Rogues' WCL regular season. The win, combined with a 7-1 Bend loss, keeps the Rogues within sight of the second WCL South playoff spot.

Medford jumped ahead early, scoring one run in the first inning and two more in the second inning after a two RBI double by outfielder Spencer Smith gave the Rogues a 3-0 lead they would not relinquish.

Hockin (2-1) pitched seven full innings allowing only one hit while striking out nine to earn his second win of the season. Kitsap starter Daniel Jewitt took the loss in his first pitching appearance of the season.

The Rogues would add two more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning after infielder Corey Wynant hit a two run single to make it a 5-0 lead late in the game. Chase Tokunaga and Brandon Williams, in his final Rogues appearance, closed out the game for Medford.

Smith led the Rogues going 2-for-4 on the night with two RBIs and one run while Wynant went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a walk.

With the win, the Rogues chances for the post season continue. If the Rogues can win tomorrow night and have the Bend Elks lose three games to the Walla Walla Sweets, Medford will advance to the playoffs in their first season as a franchise. Bend is off on Thursday and hosts the Sweets at Vince Genna Stadium starting Friday, while the Rogues play non-league games Friday and Saturday at Harry & David Field.

The Rogues return to action Thursday night for the final game of the series against the Kitsap Bluejackets. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
