Corvallis Knights Finishing Strong
The Knights clinched the WCL South by taking three straight from their long-time rivals the Bend Elks at Goss Stadium August 5-7. Corvallis (34-17) won the series opener 15-2 as the Knights banged out 20 hits including two triples by Cody Lenahan of University of Portland (who now leads the WCL in RBIs with 36) and a 4-for-4 night by shortstop Peter Van Gansen of Cal Poly. Van Gansen stayed hot in game two recording hits in his first three at bats to tally seven consecutive hits in the series as the Knights won 6-3. And last night Corvallis completed the sweep by tagging the Elks 7-1 behind another masterful performance by West Coast League ERA leader Elliot Surrey of UC Irvine as Surrey pitched 7 strong innings to improve his record to 5-1 and keep his ERA at 1.27. Corvallis wrapped its WCL regular-season home schedule with an impressive 23-4 record at Goss Stadium vs. WCL opponents including finishing with a 15-game home win streak.
