Medford Rogues News Release
BEND, OR - The Medford Rogues took their second straight series from the Bend Elks with a 10-4 win at Vince Genna Stadium tonight. A four-RBI performance by DH Kevin Davidson and a solid outing by LHP Mac Acker led the way for the Rogues. Medford takes the season series from Bend, four games to two.
An RBI double by Davidson in the first inning gave the Rogues a lead they would not relinquish. 3B Jerad Casper then scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-0 after a half inning. Bend starter Hunter Raley lasted only 1/3 of an inning in the game and was pulled for Kevin Hamman. Hamman fared no better as he gave up three earned runs in the second inning led by a two-run single from Davidson and a Spencer Smith single.
In the third, the Rogues continued to pile up runs, loading the bases with nobody out on a double by 1B Caleb Palensky, a single by C Colin Sowers that chased Hamman, and a walk to RF Danny McNabb by Bend reliever Tyler Painton. A two-run double by SS Joe Chavez made it 8-1 Rogues. Sacrifice flies by Smith and Davidson made it 10-1 through two and a half.
The game settled down following the three-inning offensive outburst with Bend adding one run in the third to make it 10-2. Neither team scored until Bend put two across in the bottom of the ninth to reach the final score.
Medford's was led by four players with multiple hits in the 14-hit attack. Davidson had three hits while Smith, 2B A.J. Balta, SS Joe Chavez and Sowers each had two hits and every batter in the lineup except 3B Jerad Casper and OF Matt Taylor had at least one.
Rogues starter Mac Acker (3-3) was solid throughout his 6-inning start, scattering four hits and two runs while striking out five. 3B Jerad Casper came in to pitch the seventh and struck out the side for Medford, and was relieved by C/RHP Bo Cornish in the eighth. Cornish pitched an uneventful eighth and LHP Brandon Synder finished the game in the ninth. The Elks went through six pitchers on the night, with Raley (2-1) taking the loss while getting only one batter out.
Medford moves to 13-17 and gains a game in the playoff race as the first-place Elks fall to 20-13. The Rogues are now five games out of a playoff spot in the WCL South with 24 league games to play.
The Rogues head for Wenatchee for a three-game series starting on Saturday and return to Harry & David Field on Tuesday for a six-game home stand, hosting Victoria and Klamath Falls in three-game sets. Game time from Wenatchee is 7:05 p.m. PST.
