Rogues Take Game One against Corvallis

MEDFORD, OR - The Medford Rogues returned to league play tonight at Harry and David Field with a resounding win over the visiting Corvallis Knights in the first of a three game series. The loss leaves Corvallis sitting in third in the South Division with a 6-13 record while the Rogues improve to 7-9 in league play and just seven and a half games behind division leaders, the Bend Elks.

Corvallis hopped on the board first with a run in the first inning but it proved to be the only time that the visitors were able to get across the plate. Two runs by the Rogues in the third inning followed by designated hitter Andrew Martinez's solo homer in the sixth and a run in the seventh sealed the victory for the home side.

Left-handed pitcher Max Bethell started on the mound for the Rogues and pitched eight strong innings. Bethell allowed only three hits for one run which was earned while walking only one and striking out four and his ERA currently sits a 1.13. DJ Wilson pitched the final inning for the Rogues allowing only one hit and striking out one to leave his ERA at 1.59.

On offense, first baseman Chris DeVito led the Rogues in his four at bats for two hits and two RBI's while his batting average for the season improved to .154. Martinez recorded his first home run of the season in one of his three at bats for one hit, one run, and one RBI and his batting average so far stands at .158.

For the visitors, Dakody Clemmer recorded the loss on the mound despite pitching seven solid innings for the Knights. Clemmer gave up eight hits for four runs, all earned, and recorded two strikeouts. Bethell grabbed the win while Wilson recorded the save.

The Rogues face the Knights again tomorrow night at Harry & David Field for the second game of the series. First pitch is set for 6:35pm.
