
Elks Win, Sweep Knights Again

The Bend Elks continue to find ways to win. It took a full 9 innings for The Elks defeat the Corvallis Knights 7-6 in walk off fashion Thursday night at Vince Genna Stadium. After the Knights put the first run across the plate in the first, Elks designated hitter Christian Cavaness led off the bottom of the first with a first pitch home run over the left field wall and a 1-1 game after the first inning. After the first inning the Elks bats struggled against Knights starter Slater Lee who gave up the one run to Cavaness then kept the Elks off the board through the rest of his evening. The Elks put a single run on in the 6th off of reliever Jorge Perez.
Elks pitching struggled at times. Patrick McGuff faced 23 batters tonight and gave up 3 runs, 2 being earned runs, on 5 hits, striking out 4 and walking 3. The Elks relievers gave up 3 more runs through the top of the 9th giving the Knights a 6-2 lead going into the bottom of the 9th inning. With one out in the bottom of the 9th West Tunnel singles. J.D.Larimer is then hit by a pitch, then clean up hitter Cooper Hummel singles loading the bases. Dalton Hurd takes the plate with bases loaded and shoots a double to center scoring Tunnel and Larimer. Billy King come in as a pinch hitter and reaches on a error from the second baseman allowing both Hummel and Hurd to score,tying the game at 6 with one out and King at first. Jarod takes the plate and is hit by a pitch moving King to second. Louis Wolf comes up the the plate and hits the ball to the shortstop who made a bad throw to first allowing Wolf to reach on the second Knight error of the inning, and bringing Billy King across the plate for the 7th and final Elk run of the evening.
The Elks are now in the midst of a 8 game winning streak, have won 8 of their last 10 games. Bend has swept the Knights for 2 consecutive series in a week, taking all 6 games from them. The 15 and 3 Elks have the best record in the West Coast league and are now leading the South Division by 7 1/2 games. The Elks return to action Friday night a Genna when the Cowlitz Black Bears come to town for a 3 game series.
