FORT MYERS, Fla. (May 28, 2013) - Taylor Rogers pitched seven shutout innings to lead the Fort Myers Miracle to a 5-0 win over the Bradenton Marauders on Wednesday at Hammond Stadium.
The Miracle offense pounded out 12 hits behind Rogers and Fort Myers improved to 5-0 against Bradenton this season.
Rogers scattered seven hits, struck out seven and didn't walk any Marauders. He worked out of trouble many times, including stranding runners at third base in four of the first five innings.
Rogers induced two inning-ending double play balls- one in the second and the other in the sixth. He threw a perfect seventh inning with two strikeouts to finish his night.
Offensively the Miracle struck first in the fourth on Matt Koch's RBI single that plated Miguel Sano, who doubled off of Bradenton starter Zack Dodson.
Kennys Vargas padded the lead in the fifth when he belted a two-run double to right field that scored Eddie Rosario and Sano.
Fort Myers tacked on two more against reliever Emmanuel De Leon in the seventh. Sano and Angel Morales each drove in runs with infield singles to make it 5-0.
Ryan O'Rourke, in his first appearance since being placed on the 7-day disabled on April 22, struck out two batters in the eighth. Matt Hauser struck out the side in the ninth to close out the game.
Rogers picked up his fourth win of the season while Dodson took the loss.
Aderling Mejia went 2 for 2 with a double, single and three walks for the Miracle. He also stole his eighth base of the season.
