Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, Manitoba -- Four teams and over fifty youngsters have been chosen to attend the 5th Annual Rogers Fan Camp on Wednesday, February 17th at Westman Communications Group Place.

The teams will be split into several groups and will run through a series of drills and skills from 5-6:30 p.m. Joining them will be members of the Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings, who will be putting a 5-game win streak on the line Wednesday night when the Red Deer Rebels pay a visit to Westman Place.

The four winning teams - all under the age of ten - that will be attending include the Brandon Chrysler Dodge Atom Flyers, the Minnedosa Novice Jets, the Souris Minor Atom Elks and the Brandon Police Association Novice Thrashers.

Fifty-five teams submitted entries to the Contest this year.

The training will be coordinated by Wheat Kings' assistant coaches Dwayne Gylywoychuk and Darren Ritchie as well as veteran members of the WHL club including captains Matt Calvert and Brayden Schenn as well as Colby Robak, Scott Glennie, Jay Fehr and newly acquired Travis Hamonic. Both Hamonic and Schenn were members of this year's Silver Medal winning Canadian entry at the World Junior Hockey Championships in Saskatchewan.

In addition to the on ice training, the future Wheat Kings will receive a poster, courtesy of Rogers, an opportunity to meet members of the team; get their autographs and have dinner with their hockey heroes.

On the ice, the Wheat Kings return to the friendly confines of Westman Place on Wednesday after a successful 4-game road trip that saw them post consecutive wins in Saskatoon, Cranbrook, Lethbridge and Calgary.

Entering Wednesday's game, the Wheat Kings trail the Eastern Conference leading Saskatoon Blades by one point.

Tickets to Wednesday's game, as well as Friday's vs. Kootenay are on sale now at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling 726-3555 or online at ticketmaster.ca.
