Bachman Coming To The Memorial Cup

Brandon, Manitoba -- Legendary guitarist, songwriter, performer and producer Randy Bachman will be kicking off Manitoba Homecoming 2010 with a visit to the 2010 MasterCard Memorial Cup.

Bachman will perform on Saturday, May 15 in the Manitoba Room at the Keystone Centre as part of the Manitoba's 140th birthday celebrations.

Born in Winnipeg, Bachman was lead guitarist, songwriter and founding member for The Guess Who, and Brave Belt, which eventually metamorphosized into Bachman-Turner Overdrive.

Bachman's celebrated career has earned him #1 hits in over 20 countries, over 120 gold and platinum albums and singles awards for performing and producing around the world, and he has amassed over 40 million records sold.

His songs include rock 'n' roll anthems "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet', 'American Woman' and ' Takin' Care of Business' and have been recorded by numerous other artists and placed in dozens of television, movie and commercial soundtracks.

Noted for his contributions as an iconic Canadian rock musician and for his support of emerging Canadian artists as a producer, Bachman received Canada's highest civilian honour for lifetime achievement, the Order of Canada, in 2008 and was also given the Order of Manitoba in 2005.

The event during the first weekend of the Memorial Cup will be part world's largest social, with several functions taking place across the province on the same night in effort to be recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records.

The Manitoba Homecoming Kick-off Social on Saturday, May 15 will be one of the ticketed events during the 2010 MasterCard Memorial Cup.

Seven-time Juno award winner Tom Cochrane will perform during the Memorial Cup Finals Weekend Social on Saturday, May 22 while other ticketed events will include the Opening Banquet on Thursday, May 13 and the Canadian Hockey League Awards Ceremony at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium on May 22.

Ticket prices, availability, as well as more news regarding this year's Memorial Cup entertainment plans will be announced at a later date.

The 2010 MasterCard Memorial Cup will be held in Brandon from May 14-23, marking the first time in history that the 4-team Championship will be hosted in the province of Manitoba.
