Rockford Lightning News Release

Lightning fans and Illini fans will want to email the lightning at lightningpr@hotmail.com to purchase a limited edition box score from the March 12th Lightning vs. the Dakota Wizards game at the MetroCentre.

Sunday, March 12th, 2006 will forever be remembered as the day Roger Powell Jr. scored the last 10 Lightning points and broke Kendrick Warren's 12-year old Lightning rookie scoring record with 0:31 remaining on the game clock. His 37 points were not only a game high, but also a season high for the rookie forward out of the University of Illinois.

Each box score is signed by Powell himself and will be accompanied by an official Lightning press release referencing this incredible accomplishment along with a poster from the 2005-06 Lightning season.

The cost of this limited edition Lightning collectors item is just $10 per package. Fans will need to email the Lightning for more information or to place an order. At this price, fans will want to place their orders today before they are gone. Only 500 box scores were printed, numbered, and signed by the 2006 CBA Rookie of the Year and member of the CBA All-League 2nd team.

"I have never broken a scoring record before," said Powell. "I thank god for the opportunity to be a part of the Lightning and accomplish what I have in my first year in professional basketball out of college. I learned a lot and I am now ready for the next step in God's plan for me."

The game against the Wizards was also the final regular season game in the 20th anniversary season for the Rockford Lightning. Rockford won the game 133-115 behind 37 points and 7 rebounds from Powell. Lightning legend Ronnie Fields contributed an impressive stat line of 27 points, 10 rebounds, 8 assists, and 5 steals for the game which could possibly go down as the final regular season game ever to be played by the Lightning if new owners do not step forward to keep the team in Rockford next season.
