Rodman Practices With ABA Long Beach Jam

February 10, 2005 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Maywood Laguneros News Release

LONG BEACH, Calif. (Feb. 10, 2005) -Two-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year, Dennis Rodman, took part in his first practice with the Long Beach Jam of the American Basketball Association (ABA) yesterday.

An elder statesman on the team, Rodman ran through the team's offensive and defensive drills, often dispensing advice to his new teammates. Sporting un-dyed hair, Rodman routinely grabbed rebounds, set picks and blocked shots.

"It felt good to get back on the court," Rodman said. "Basketball is still my passion. I want to get to the next level again."

Rodman was a member of last season's ABA Championship squad, averaging 12 rebounds per contest in three games with the Jam, including 14 in the title game against the Kansas City Knights.

"Dennis brings an energy to our team that we need at this point in the season," Head Coach Corey Gaines said. "I can already see a difference in our team's intensity after two practices."

The winner of an unprecedented seven consecutive rebounding titles, Rodman's first game with the Jam is Sunday, Feb. 13, at 2 p.m. against the Ontario Warriors at the Pyramid in Long Beach. For tickets, call the Pyramid Box Office at (562) 985-4949.
