Rod Baker Named Head Coach of the Delaware 87ers

BAKERSFIELD, November 13, 2013 - Rod Baker has been named head coach of the Delaware 87ers, the team announced today.
Baker spent the 2012-13 season as an assistant coach of the Bakersfield Jam, helping lead Bakersfield to a franchise best of 36-14 record. In his lone season with the Jam, Baker helped develop two players who earned GATORADE Call-Ups to the NBA.
"There is no way that I would have been in position to have this opportunity if it were not for my time with the Jam," said Baker. "I am a better coach and person because of Stan Ellis and David Higdon, and of course Will Voigt."
A College of the Holy Cross graduate, Baker spent seven years (2005-2012) as head coach in the Premier Basketball League (PBL) for the Rochester RazorSharks. During his tenure in Rochester, Baker led the RazorSharks with an impressive 147-36 overall record including four championships. He originally coached the RazorSharks in the ABA, where he won his first championship, then transitioned his program to the PBL where he led his team to three championships as well as being named Coach of the Year three times.
The Bakersfield Jam expect to name an assistant coach soon. Details will be announced at a later date.
