SEASON OPENERS
The Rage dropped to 1-2-0 all-time in season openers following Friday's loss to Laredo. On opening night in 2006-07 the team defeated the Eagles, 5-4, and last season it prevailed over the Odessa Jackalopes, 3-2. All three contests were on the road as Rocky Mountain has never begun a campaign at Broomfield Event Center.
HOME OPENERS
The club is hoping Friday's night's first-ever season-opening loss is not a bad omen for Wednesday's home opener against Colorado. The Rage are 2-0-0 in their previous home-opening tilts at the BEC, downing the Tulsa Oilers, 5-4 in a shootout, during the inaugural game in Broomfield in 2006 before knocking off Tulsa again last season, 4-1.
RETURNING PLAYERS
The Rage return 11 players from last season's club, including CHL All-Stars from a year ago Tyler Butler, Brent Cullaton, Scott Reid, and Scott Wray. Last season's exploits for the quartet: Butler finished fifth in the league in scoring among defensemen with 52 points (16g-36a); Cullaton made the All-CHL Team and was a league MVP Finalist after finishing second in assists (71) and fourth in points (92); Reid racked up the third most wins across the CHL with 25, moving him to seventh on the league's all-time wins list with 121; and Wray was third in the CHL with 28 goals before a knee injury ended his season with 16 games remaining.
DON'T FORGET #14
Another key returner for Rocky Mountain is player/assistant coach Daymen Rycroft. Remarkably, Rycroft was not named a CHL All-Star last season despite leading the league with 48 goals on the year. He also paced the CHL with 23 power play tallies. Both goal-scoring feats smashed the old Rage single-season records of 19 goals and nine power play markers set by Mark Wires in 2006-07.
FRONT RANGE RIVALRY
The Rage won the season series from their chief rivals last season with a mark of 7-4-1 overall and 5-0-1 in Broomfield, but it was the Eagles who had the last laugh by winning their fifth straight Northwest Division title. Although, Rocky Mountain did close the gap with the perennial league powerhouse compared to the 2006-07 campaign. During the Rage's inaugural season, the team finished last in the league, 52 points behind Colorado in the standings. Rocky Mountain concluded last year in second place in the division, just three points back of the first-place Eagles.
Tickets for all 32 of the Rage's regular season home games at Broomfield Event Center are available for as low as $5 for kids 12 and under (with the purchase of at least one adult ticket) at the BEC box office, www.Ticketmaster.com, charge-by-phone at (303) 830-TIXS, and all Ticketmaster retail outlets.
Season tickets and mini-plans for the 2008-09 campaign are still available, as well, with packages beginning as low as $17 per seat. For more information, visit www.rockymountainrage.com, or contact the Rage Ticket Sales Staff at (303) 439-RAGE or tickets@broomfieldsports.com.
