Rockies Farm System Best in National League

With the Modesto Nuts 2007 season only 66 days away, the Nuts staff is busy preparing for Opening Day on April 5th. There are numerous improvements scheduled to take place at John Thurman Field in preparation for the 2007 season. The new improvements are starting to take shape as the John Thurman infield has been laser leveled, making the infield one of the best in the California League. Also, the Nuts are expanding their East BBQ area and moving the visiting bullpens onto the playing field on the left field line. Finally, the most exciting of the 2007 improvements is the brand new state-of-the-art video board. Construction of the board is scheduled to begin in March and will be ready for Opening Day on April 5th. To see renderings of the Modesto Nuts video board www.modestonuts.com.

In baseball news, Baseball America recently released their yearly talent rankings by orbanization, and the Colorado Rockies currently have the #2 rated farm system in all of baseball (#1 in the National League). Baseball America released the top 30 Rockies prospects and 16 have called Modesto home at some point in their careers. The top rated former Modesto Nuts were #1 overall prospect Troy Tulowitzki (2005) and #2 overall prospect Franklin Morales (2006). Other former Nuts who made the list include: Ian Stewart, Ubaldo Jimenez, Greg Reynolds, Chris Iannetta, Manuel Corpas, Juan Morillo, Jonathan Herrera, Seth Smith, Samuel Deduno, Corey Wimberly, Ching-Lung Lo, Darren Clarke, Alvin Colina and Matt Miller.
