
Rockford uses rally power to defeat Mayhem

Muskegon, MI- Rockford had to rally back in their last two contests at home to earn victories, but how would they fare when they had to do it on the road? The Lightning trailed the Michigan Mayhem by 20 points heading into the fourth quarter at the L.C. Walker Arena, but outscored the Mayhem 43-17 in the final stanza to earn the 134-132 victory on Friday night. The victory snapped the Mayhem's six-game winning streak.
Rockford won the first and last quarters of the contest, and nabbed a total of five quarter points. Brant Bailey was the high scorer for the Bolts, as he chipped in 31 points in the win. Jermaine Tate set a season high in rebounds with 18, and nabbed a double double with a 20 point performance as well. Marshall Phillips dished out five assists, and Jermaine Walker added 29 points for the Lightning in the victory. Former Lightning guard Doug Overton scored 30 points to lead the Mayhem in the loss. Rockford improves to 22-18 on the season, and increases their quarter point margin over the third-place Gary Steelheads, who only earned one quarter point in a 106-100 loss to the Dakota Wizards on Friday night.
Rockford and Michigan will tangle again on Sunday, February 27 at the Rockford MetroCentre at 3:05 p.m. The first 1,000 kids 12 and under receive a Rockford Lightning youth jersey, sponsored by the Rock River Valley Life Goes On committee, a Secretary of State initiative to increase awareness about organ, tissue, blood and marrow donation. Agnus Jackson makes their third appearance at the MetroCentre for a pre- and post-game concert, and the Jesse White Tumblers will once again entertain the crowd at halftime.
