Rockford IceHogs News Release
Rockford, Ill.- After three-days of rumors about the future of the Rockford IceHogs floating around, the United Hockey League club hit the ice on Wednesday night and knocked off their Western Conference rival Fort Wayne Komets 5-1 at the Rockford MetroCentre. Centers Steve Yetman and Preston Mizzi had two goals apiece and goalie Frederic Cloutier turned away 25 Komets shots to earn the win.
The Hogs scored a pair of goals in the first period to take a 2-0 lead. Yetman got things rolling on the power play at 3:58 when he hammered home a puck that was blocked in traffic past Dan McWhinney. Defenseman Dan Boeser later blasted in his second tally of the season at 16:45 to take the two-goal lead.
In the second frame Rockford tacked on two more to take a comfortable 4-0 advantage. Yetman notched his second of the night with another power-play goal at 10:34, sliding a rebound past McWhinney. Mizzi tallied his first of the night at 15:59 when his shot bounced off of a Komets defenseman and past McWhinney.
Fort Wayne attempted a third period comeback and center J.C. Ruid put them on the board with his ninth tally of the campaign at 4:12 of the final frame. Mizzi got the marker back, however, at 13:35 blowing his fourth goal of the season past McWhinney.
Rockford outshot Fort Wayne 38-26 and held the Komets lethal power play to 0-for-4. Rockford finished the night 2-for-7 on the advantage.
Next Home Game: Friday, Nov. 17 vs. Bloomington PrairieThunder. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m. The Hogs and Thunder play for the first time ever at the MetroCentre.
