The IceHogs earned their fifth win of the season on Saturday night over the Checkers thanks to standout performances from goaltender Lars Johansson and left wing Brandon Mashinter. Johansson notched his first career AHL shutout with 28 saves to earn second star honors. His perfect performance was complimented by Mashinter's hat trick, the first of the season for Rockford. Mashinter scored in all three periods and was able to snap a 275-minute scoring drought by IceHogs forwards with his power-play tally in the first frame.
The Reign ended a losing streak last night with a win in a shootout in Iowa. Ontario pulled off a third period comeback to force extra time and beat the Wild in the shootout on goals from Jonny Brodzinski and Sean Backman. The Reign, the NHL affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, is led by Vincent LoVerde and T.J. Hensick who have both posted nine points.
Next Home Game: Saturday, Nov. 19 versus the Texas Stars at 7 p.m. The IceHogs welcome the Stars to the BMO Harris Bank Center for the first of four season meetings on Stroll on State Night. The first 1,500 fans to enter the arena will receive an IceHogs scarf compliments of GoRockford.com.
