River City Rascals News Release

O'FALLON, MO - Todd Martin doubled with the bases loaded in the ninth and cleared the bases to push the RiverHawks over the Rascals 7-4 at T.R. Hughes Ballpark. Martin finished 3-4 with four runs batted in for Rockford.

Rockford (19-21) started the ninth with a single from Caleb Fields, who advanced to third on a hit and run single by Matt Mazurek. The throw went into third base, allowing Mazurek to move up to second. After John Brooks struck out, the Rascals elected to walk Jason James to load the bases with one out. Martin then lined a ball into the gap in left center field off Josh Rose (0-1) to clear the bases.

River City (26-13) tied the game in the eighth at four on a John Muller (1-3) wild pitch. Chris Colton and Scott Robinson singled to end the night for Marcus McKenzie. Muller entered and walked Joe Billick to load the bases with nobody out. Danny Sawyer struck out and Colton scored on the wild pitch with Andy Reilly at the plate. With runners at second and third, Reilly hit a bouncer to short that Jono Brooks threw home to cut down Robinson. Jorge Gutierrez grounded out to end the threat with the score tied at four.

The Rascals held a brief 2-0 lead after three innings, scoring in the second on a Sawyer sacrifice fly and on an RBI single by Kevin Reynolds in the third against starter, Matt Enderle.

The RiverHawks responded with four runs over the next three innings against Daniel Howard. Aaron Cone singled in a run in the third and the RiverHawks plated two runs with two outs in the fourth. Jason James singled to right field to drive in the tying run and Martin followed with a base knock to left field to give Rockford a 3-2 advantage. The single by James extended his hitting streak to 30 games, tying the Frontier League record.

Howard went six innings for the Rascals, allowing four runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts and three walks.

Rose picked up his first loss, allowing his first runs of the season. The rookie tossed three frames and surrendered three runs on four hits with five punchouts.

Reynolds and Billick each had two hits while Reynolds and Sawyer had the only runs batted in.

The Rascals and RiverHawks meet in game two of the series tomorrow afternoon at T.R. Hughes Ballpark. Chris Ingoglia (4-3) will go up against Kyle Wright (4-1) on the bump. First pitch on the Fourth of July is set for 3:05 p.m.
