Rockets Rookie Camp: Day Two
August 23, 2018 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Kelowna Rockets News Release
Kelowna Rockets Rookie Camp day two is complete.
Once again the 2002 and 2003 born players began at 9:00am and ice times ran until 7:10pm. Each of the six teams played two games throughout the day.
One Rockets prospect going through the grind is the Rockets 18th overall selection in the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft, Trevor Wong. He's enjoyed the first two days, but says it's been tough competition.
"It's been really good. All the guys here are really nice and all the staff. Meeting all the invites and draft picks is pretty cool, and playing in this rink makes it even better," said Wong. "It's quick. Everyone is working hard and they want to make main camp and so it makes it that much harder. I just want to keep getting better everyday and obviously these guys are going to work even harder as well so I try to up that and keep going. All the good players make guys around them better and that's what I'm trying to do, just make my line mates better every shift."
Wong is planning to continue working hard in rookie camp to try to earn a spot in main camp. The Vancouver native was selected by the Rockets with their first selection in the bantam draft after a stellar season with the St. George's School Bantam Varsity program, scoring a whopping 64 goals and 77 assists for 141 points in 30 games. 15-year-old Wong says it was pretty cool to be drafted by the Kelowna Rockets.
"It was really exciting, at the time I was in Philadelphia. I've heard nothing but good things about this organization and so it was really exciting getting drafted here."
Wong and the rookies will be back on the ice at 9:00am tomorrow morning for day three of camp.
Rookie Camp runs from August 20th - August 24th.
Main Camp runs from August 24th - August 30th, with Rockets preseason beginning on August 31st as they host their divisional rivals, the Victoria Royals at Prospera Place. Puck drop is at 7:05pm.
