High Point Rockers News Release

Lexington, KY. - After a grueling 14-hour bus ride, the Rockers battled the Legends on Friday night but fell 6-4 at Lexington Legends Ballpark.

Lexington got on the board in the first inning when Brandon Phillips crushed his third home run of the year against Rockers starter Ricky Knapp (2-3).

High Point would grab the lead in the third inning off former Cincinnati Reds pitcher J.J. Hoover (2-0) when Michael Russell singled in Johnny Field and was brought in himself on a Jerry Downs double. The lead didn't last long as the Legends plated four runs, including three on a Keon Barnum home run.

The Rockers (18-20) pulled back to within one with RBI singles by Field and Stephen Cardullo to cut the deficit to 5-4 in the fourth inning.

In the fifth inning, Keon Barnum hit a high, wall-scraping home run to leftfield to extend the lead to 6-4 for Lexington (24-13).

High Point had an opportunity in the eighth inning to mount a comeback. With the bases loaded and two outs, Legends reliever Jeff Thompson delivered a fastball to JR DiSarcina that was hit deep to right, but rightfielder Cole Sturgeon flagged it down at the wall to end the threat. Closer Derek Self set the Rockers down in order in the ninth to end the game.

The Rockers and Legends resume the series tomorrow at 6:35 at Lexington Legends Ballpark.
