Toronto Rock News Release
(Toronto, Ontario) â Wednesday January 22, 2003 â With the new look, condensed schedule, most teams play a game a week and sometimes two during the 2003 season. This weekend the Rock travels to Ottawa for a Thursday night game (January 23rd 7:30p.m Sportsnet, FAN 590), when they take on the 2-2 Rebel and then travel back to Toronto for a Friday night game at the ACC (January 24th 7:30p.m Sportsnet, FAN 590) against the Buffalo Bandits.
Although the Ottawa Rebel have only won two games at home over the last three seasons. The Rebel is 5-25 over the last two seasons, but this year they are off to the best start of the franchise with a 2-2 record. The Rebel is coming off a strong victory over Gary Gait and his Colorado Mammoth and a week off has made the Rebel anxious to play the defending Champs. The Rock are 4-0 against the Rebel in the last two years.
Bob Watson will return to action after back-up goalie Anthony Cosmo received the nod against Calgary last weekend. According to Les Bartley, Rock Head Coach, Cosmo may have the green light against Buffalo on Friday night. Rookie, Tom Montour, will get his second straight start after netting two against Calgary.
"Cosmo is an up and coming goalie in this league. He could start all 16 games for any team in this league. We have to get him in there and get him some game repetitions" said Les Bartley.
Veteran defender, Glenn Clark, will be making the trip to Ottawa in place of rookie Scott Stapleford but will not play against the Rebel. Clark is schedule to return to the line-up Friday night at the Air Canada Centre.
