Toronto Rock News Release
Toronto - The Toronto Rock are 0-2 and are trying to avoid going 0-3 for the first time since the 2007 season as they face the Rochester Knighthawks (1-1) at 7pm at Air Canada Centre this evening. Back in 2007, the Rock finished 6-10 and were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the same team they face tonight.
The Rock have held halftime leads in each of their two games this season but the second half has not been friendly to the Rock just one season removed from going 9-1 when leading at the midway point of the game.
On offence, the Rock will be without the services of Blaine Manning who will see his consecutive games played streak of 162 come to an end this evening. The regular season streak was the longest in NLL history by a player with one team. Manning recently underwent successful surgery to repair a broken collarbone and will be out of the lineup for 6-8 weeks. Tonight will be the first time in over 10 seasons that Manning will not be in the lineup for the Rock.
Another Ironman streak is still in tact however. Tonight when Rock Captain Colin Doyle steps on the floor, he will tie the NLL all-time regular season consecutive games played streak of 188 games currently held by Steve Toll. With the Rock in Calgary tomorrow night, an appearance by Doyle in that game and he will officially stand alone as the NLL's Ironman.
Earlier today, the Toronto Rock signed Jesse Gamble to the practice roster bringing the total number of players on the practice roster to the league maximum of three. Rookies Pete Rennie and Zak Boychuk occupy the other two spots. The signing of Gamble to the practice roster is pending league approval.
Tonight's game can be seen live on TSN2 at 7pm ET and is also available on TSN Mobile TV. Tickets for tonight's game are still available, however the lower bowl at Air Canada Centre is closing in on being sold out. For tickets, please visit www.torontorock.com.
Tomorrow night's game between the Rock and the Roughnecks in Calgary has been moved from TSN2 to TSN. The game will air live at 9pm ET and will be available on TSN Mobile TV.
