Calgary, AB - The Calgary Roughnecks fell to the Toronto Rock 11-10 in overtime Saturday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome, in their only meeting for the season.
Toronto opened the scoring on an early powerplay barely one minute into the game. Defenseman Shane Simpson answered for the home side seconds later, with that goal taking him to a career high of nine goals for the season so far.
The Rock continued a scoring run, netting a streak of six goals through the first and second. The Roughnecks answered back through the second with a run of four goals from Tyler Pace, Haiden Dickson, Zach Currier, and Jeff Cornwall to bring the score to 7-5 at the half.
Calgary continued to push through the third and fourth quarter. Goals from Josh Currier, Dan Taylor, Pace and King kept the Roughnecks in the game and brought the score to 10-9 late in the fourth. With less than thirty seconds in the game, A CTO from Tyler Pace was picked up by King who found the back of the net to take the game into overtime. Stephen Keogh scored the overtime winner for the Toronto Rock.
Tyler Pace led the Roughnecks in points tonight with 6 (2g, 4a), with Jesse King also scoring two goals and finishing with two assists. Josh Currier's goal took him to 100 goals in his career, whilst his brother Zach Currier led both teams in loose balls with 14. Christian Del Bianco saved 32 of 43 shots on goal, with the Roughnecks totaling 45 shots on goal.
The Calgary Roughnecks are now 3-3 on the season.
The Roughnecks head east to Halifax next weekend to take on the Thunderbirds, before returning home in Week 11 for a double header weekend.
