Rock Ready for Home and Home Series
April 7, 2005 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Toronto Rock News Release
Toronto, ON â Sitting at a League best 10-3 record, the Toronto Rock are preparing for their fourth and final weekend of back to back games. The Rock will take on the Philadelphia Wings in a home and home series that will begin at the Wachovia Centre on Saturday April 9. The two teams faced off last weekend in a high scoring battle that saw the Rock emerge with the 17-15 win. A big reason for the win was the collective efforts of Colin Doyle and Josh Sanderson, who combined for a lethal 21 points on the night.
"Colin and Josh are a natural team, they're able to find each other on the field and put the ball in the net." Blaine Manning; Toronto Rock Forward
During the 2005 season, Doyle and J. Sanderson have combined for 170 points in 13 games, potting 30 goals collectively. A strong connection on the field like that can have dire effects on opposing teams.
"The Rock know how to put the ball in the net, there's no getting around that. They did it to us last weekend the same way that they've been doing it to everyone in the League. Do we have the answer as to how to stop them? We'll see after this weekend." Lindsay Sanderson, Philadelphia Wings Head Coach and GM.
The Rock and the Wings have faced off against each other 16 times in franchise history, with the Rock taking 7 of the last 8 games. Despite that record though, the Rock are not taking this game lightly. The Wings powerplay is the 3rd best in the League and with snipers like Tom Marechek, Dan Marohl and Jeff Ratcliffe, the Rock will have to stay on their toes and out of the penalty box to take a win this weekend.
Both teams are a part of the Eastern Division battle where only 1 playoff spot is up for grabs. So while the Rock will be fighting for a win that will translate into home field advantage throughout the playoffs, the Wings will be fighting to keep their playoff hopes alive.
The weekend's series begins on Saturday night at the Wachovia Centre at 8:00pm EST. Fans can catch all the action live on AM 640 Toronto, with pre-game coverage starting at 7:30pm. On Sunday, the Rock will take on the Wings at the Air Canada Centre at 4:00pm. Tickets are still available for the game that will feature the Rock's annual Mascot game and the post-game Autograph Session sponsored by the Toronto Sun. Fans can purchase tickets through Ticketmaster outlets online at www.ticketmaster.ca, by phone at (416) 872 5000 or in person at the Box Office at the Air Canada Centre.
