Rochester Knighthawks News Release

Game Notes: The Rochester Knighthawks travel to San Jose to battle the Stealth on Friday, April 8th at 11:00 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on News Talk 950 WROC and knighthawks.net.

Head-to-Head: The trip is the first to San Jose for the Knighthawks. Last season, Rochester defeated San Jose, 10-9, on February 14th at The Blue Cross Arena. The game this season is only the second meeting between the two clubs.

Playoff Scenario: Rochester can clinch a playoff berth with one win or one Philadelphia loss. The Wings play the Toronto Rock in a home-and-home series this weekend. The Rock plays at Philadelphia Saturday and the series shifts to the Air Canada Centre on Sunday.

Knighthawks Notes: Rochester's John Grant is only four points away from becoming the first Knighhawk to reach 500 points. In 76 career games, he has 235 goals and 261 assists. Grant is second in the NLL in points this season with 90 (42+48) in 13 games. Goalie Pat O'Toole is second in the NLL with 513 saves. Defenseman Casey Zaph is only two penalty minutes shy of reaching 300 in his Rochester career, which is a team record. Steve Toll will play against his former team after being dealt to Rochester on March 24th.

San Jose Notes: The contest marks the first time that former Knighthawks Curt and Derek Malawsky will play against Rochester. Curt played in 74 games with the ‘Hawks and recorded 134 goals, 149 assists and 283 points. Derek appeared in 47 games and notched 75 goals, 148 assists and 223 points. Defenseman Eric Martin also plays for the Rochester Rattlers of Major League Lacrosse.

Boyle wins NLL award: Ryan Boyle of the San Jose Stealth earned March Rookie of the Month honors. The rookie forward scored five goals and added 15 assists for 20 points and collected 31 loose balls in six games played in March. Having also earned the award in January, Boyle becomes only the fourth rookie in league history to earn two Rookie of the Month Awards. Boyle joins John Grant, (2000), Tracey Kelusky (2001), and Craig Conn (2004) as the only players to do so.

Next Game: The Knighthawks end their regular season home schedule against Paul and Gary Gait, and the Colorado Mammoth on Friday, April 15th. The game is a 7:35 p.m. start at The Blue Cross Arena. The game will be broadcast on News Talk 950 WROC and knighthawks.net.

That night features the final regular season game for lacrosse legends Paul and Gary Gait. The twin brothers will be honored prior to the contest as part of Rochester's annual awards night celebration. The K-Hawks will also name their MVP, Best Defenseman, Unsung Hero and Community Service winners.

Paul returns to Rochester, where he played from 1995-97. In his final season, he guided the Knighthawks to the Major Indoor Lacrosse League title. He was the first team captain in 1995 and a three-time MILL All-Pro. In 1997, he was named the Knighthawks MVP. He still ranks among the franchise's Top 10 in goals and shots on goal. Last year, he was named to the franchise's All-Time Team.

The K-Hawks will wear their teal jerseys during the game, which be auctioned off to benefit Continuing Developmental Services. The "retro era" jerseys were debuted by the team during the 2001-02 season.
