Rock Cats Win Slugfest 10-8 in Front of Capacity Crowd 7,598

New Britain, CT - The New Britain Rock Cats outslugged the Portland Sea Dogs for a 10-8 win Wednesday afternoon in front of a capacity crowd of 7,598 at New Britain Stadium. The victory gave the Rock Cats their second straight series win while finishing their first homestand at 6-1. The game featured 18 runs, 29 hits and Rock Cats home runs by LF Mike Tauchman and DH Will Swanner.

Trailing 3-1 after two innings and 5-2 heading to 5 th, the Rock Cats battled back with a five run 5 th inning to claim the lead for good. Noel Cuevas cleared the bases with a 3-run triple as he ripped a pitch by starter Luis Diaz over left fielder Blake Tekotte's head, scoring Tyler Masse, Trevor Story and Tom Murphy and giving New Britain a 6-5 lead. Cuevas would later score on a sacrifice fly by Jason Langfels.

Rock Cats starter RHP Shane Carle scattered 10 hits and five runs in 5.2 innings but earned his third straight win for the Rockies' affiliate. He extended his consecutive innings streak without a walk to 19.1 in his three starts. Carle struck out three in the winning effort and retired the side in order twice.

The Rock Cats added three more runs in the 8 th inning off reliever Pat Light. Will Swanner began the rally with a leadoff home run, his first as a member of the Rock Cats. Trevor Story followed later that inning with a 2 RBI single giving the Rock Cats a 10-5 lead going to the 9 th .

Portland rallied off the Rock Cats bullpen in the top of the 9 th inning and scored three times on singles by Carlos Asuaje and Luis Martinez making it 10-8. With runners at the corners and 2-out, Austin House retired Oscar Tejada on a grounder to end the game.

The Rock Cats begin a 2-city 7 game road trip tomorrow night in Richmond, Virginia and return to New Britain Stadium on Friday, May 1 st to host the Richmond Flying Squirrels.
