New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain, CT - The Rock Cats were defeated by the Harrisburg Senators by the score of 6-2 on Tuesday evening at New Britain Stadium.

Monday's game, which had been postponed due to rain, has been rescheduled to be a single-admission doubleheader beginning at 6:05 p.m. on Saturday August 16th.

Visiting Harrisburg jumped out to an early 3-0 against LHP Sean Gilmartin, who was making his debut with the Rock Cats. The Senators strung together four consecutive hits, including a two-RBI double for SS Jason Martinson and sacrifice fly by RF Caleb Ramsey, to get off to a strong start.

New Britain was threatening with bases loaded in the bottom of the second but great positioning by CF Michael Taylor allowed him to snag a line drive off the bat of fellow CF Corey Wimberly and end the inning unscathed.

The Rock Cats would not be denied in the third however, scoring two runs on an RBI single by LF Daniel Ortiz and taking advantage of a Harrisburg error to push another runner across the plate to bring New Britain within one.

The Senators put up two more runs in the top of the fifth to make it a 5-2 ballgame. Ramsey slapped a single past a diving 1B Kennys Vargas to score Martinson from third and LF Destin Hood, who doubled in the previous at-bat.

Harrisburg added on another run in the top of the eighth after RHP Lester Oliveros walked 1B Matt Skole with the bases full of Senators. The run was charged to LHP Ryan O'Rourke.

Gilmartin, who was acquired by the Twins in trade with the Atlanta Braves over the offseason for C/OF Ryan Doumit, went five innings in his 2014 debut. He allowed five runs, four earned, on nine hits while striking out four and walking one. The lefthander's record falls to 0-1.

Harrisburg starter RHP A.J. Cole secured the win in his first start of the year. He scattered five hits while allowing two runs, both unearned, while striking out none and walking just one.

New Britain will play the finale of the abbreviated series on Wednesday night. Connecticut native LHP Pat Dean will start for the Rock Cats, while Harrisburg sends RHP Blake Schwartz. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
