
Rochester Takes Naz's Chad Amidon In The Sixth Round

(Rochester, NY) - The Rochester Knighthawks acquired two players in the first round of today's National Lacrosse League Entry Draft. Rochester selected 19-year-old forwards Matt McLeod and Andrew Potter at the draft held at Pepsi Center in Denver.
The Knighthawks picked McLeod (Orangeville, Ontario) with the eighth overall selection after acquiring the pick from Boston in exchange for defenseman Jack Reid. The K-Hawks then chose Andrew Potter from St. Catharines with the 14th overall pick. McLead finished fifth in Ontario Lacrosse Association Junior 'A' with 65 points (30+35) in 18 games. Potter was also in the Top 20 in scoring in junior lacrosse with 53 points in 17 games (28+25) for St. Catharines.
Rochester used its last three picks to take Lucas Miller (Six Nations), Chad Amidon (Nazareth College) and Cody Richardson (Orangeville). Amidon spent the summer with the Rochester Rattlers. The Syracuse, NY, native was Nazareth's second leading scorer and the team?s top scoring midfielder in 2007 with 56 points (34+22). The team captain also led the Golden Flyers with 106 ground balls and captured 59.7 percent of his faceoffs taken (176 for 295). He was a First Team All-Empire 8 Conference choice in 2007 and a Second Team selection in 2006.
Three other Rattlers were taken in the draft. Boston selected midfielder Alex Smith in the third-round (32nd overall). Chicago then drafted Matt Dasinger with the 54th overall selection and Colorado picked Andrew Spack with the 70th selection.
The draft began with Boston trading the No. 1 and No. 29 picks to the New York Titans for Matt Alrich and the No. 3 pick. The Titans then used the first overall selection to take Jordan Hall from the University of Delaware.
The Knighthawks are entering their 14th season of professional lacrosse and are the defending National Lacrosse League champions. Rochester captured the 2007 NLL Champion?s Cup on May 12th, defeating the Arizona Sting 13-11 at Jobing.com Arena in Glendale, Arizona. The win was the team's 15th straight and capped a 17-2 season. The championship was the second in the franchise's history. The Knighthawks last won the title in 1997.
