Rochester Knighthawks News Release

(Toronto, Ontario)... The Rochester Knighthawks made Syracuse University and Six Nations star Cody Jamieson the first overall selection at the Westin Harbour Castle tonight in Toronto. Knighthawks Owner and General Manager Curt Styres and, appropriately, Gary Gait handed Jamieson the No. 22 jersey.

Gait wore No. 22 the past two seasons with Rochester and wore the number at Syracuse University. Jamieson wore the storied number at SU in 2010 and now appears ready to wear the number with Rochester. He played two years with the Orange and recorded 37 goals, 16 assists for 53 points in 21 games. His biggest goal was the OT game-winning goal in the 2009 National Championship game.

In the Senior "A" Canadian Box League, he was named the winner of the 2009 Jim Murphy Award as the Major Series Lacrosse MVP, the Gene Dopp Award as outstanding rookie and the Buck McDonald Award as the league's top scorer with 48 goals and 48 assists for 96 points. It was the first time in MSL history anyone has won all three awards in the same season. In his junior career, he scored 199 goals and assisted on 196 in 103 regular season games with the Six Nations Arrows. He was also the inaugural winner of the NLL Insider Junior Player of the Year Award in 2008. During Jamieson's tenure with the Six Nations Arrows he won four straight league championships and the 2007 Minto Cup.

"It is a dream come true, finally," said Jamieson, who surrounded by a dozen family members including Uncle Curt Styres. "Every kid growing up wants to be a pro athlete and I have been thinking about this day for a long time."
