Rochester signs goalie Phil Wetherup

(Rochester, NY)... Rochester Knighthawks General Manager Jody Gage announced today the signing of veteran goalie Phil Wetherup. Rochester added Wetherup to the roster by moving defenseman Mike Hasen to the injured reserve list.

Wetherup has played six seasons in the National Lacrosse League, spending time with the Toronto Rock, Buffalo Bandits, New York Saints, Arizona Sting and Columbus Landsharks. The 29 year old last played for the Rock during the 2005 and 2006 campaigns, winning a Champion's Cup in 2005. Last season, he appeared in two games and registered a 7.42 goals-against average.

In his career, he has played in 35 games and has recorded an 8-15 record, a 15.47 goals-against average and 15 assists. The Waterloo, Ontario, native has also notched 703 saves and a .702 save percentage.

This week, the Knighthawks host the Chicago Shamrox at 7:35 p.m. on "Irish Night" on Saturday, February 3rd. Fans can listen to Irish music and enjoy a halftime game between the Irish National Lacrosse Team and the Irish Lacrosse Foundation.

The game is a battle for first place in the East Division. Rochester (4-2) and the expansion Shamrox (3-1) are currently tied for the division lead. The contest will be broadcast live on B2 Networks and air tape delayed on Time Warner SportsNet Channel 26.
