SUNDAY, APRIL 29, 2012 w COCA-COLA FIELD

GAME #23 - ROAD GAME #11 - 1:05 P.M.

ROCHESTER RED WINGS (9-13) at BUFFALO BISONS (13-10)

LHP SCOTT DIAMOND (4-0, 1.07) vs. RHP DYLAN OWEN (1-1, 4.02)

BUFFALO WILD WINGS: The Rochester Red Wings today play the 3rd game of their 4-game series at the Buffalo Bisons (Mets), continuing their 8-game roadtrip that also includes a 4-game set at the Empire State Yankees at Frontier Field. After a brief 2-game homestand next weekend vs. Buffalo, the Wings hit the road for their first of 5 season-long 8-game roadtrips with stops at Pawtucket (Red Sox) and Syracuse (Nationals).

a Rochester is 4 days (5 games) into a stretch of playing a season-high 28 days in a row through May 22 (barring any rainouts). The Wings are winless to start the stretch.

a The Red Wings played 16 of their first 20 games at Frontier Field, including 4 as the "road" team against the Empire State Yankees. Rochester on Friday began a stretch of playing 16 of 18 games as the road team through May 14, but 4 of the 16 will be at Frontier Field against the Empire State Yankees.

a The Red Wings are 4-6 as the road team and 2-4 when they actually play away from Frontier Field.

ROSTER NEWS: The Red Wings today received Ben Revere from the Minnesota Twins, who optioned the outfielder following Friday night's game. Revere comes back to the Red Wings after Josh Willingham returned from the Paternity Leave List. Revere, who is wearing No. 2, opened the season on the Twins' Opening Day roster, and was first optioned to Rochester April 15.

a The Wings yesterday received right-handed pitcher Deolis Guerra from Double-A New Britain. The 23-year-old Venezuelan, who is wearing No. 32, promptly tossed 3.0 scoreless innings of relief in the 3-2 loss at Buffalo last night in his 2012 Red Wings debut.

ENOUGH ALREADY!: The Red Wings have started 9-13 for the 2nd year in a row, matching their win total from April of last year with 2 games remaining. One win over the next 2 days would give them their most in the season-opening month since 2008, when they were 13-14.

a The 2011 Wings finished April with a 9-13 mark and went on to win 3 of their next 4 to start the month of May.

a The Wings have lost a season-high 5 in a row, 7 of their last 9, and 11 of their last 15 since opening the year 5-2. The Wings haven't lost 5 in a row since a 2011 season-worst 6-game skid August 20-25.

a The Wings have spent 3 straight days below .500 after spending all but 2 days at or above the .500 mark through their first 18 games.

PEPSI ANYONE?: The Red Wings last night extended their losing streak in Coke-themed ballparks to 14 games. Rochester has lost 8 straight at Coca-Cola Field in Buffalo, the longest streak against an opponent on the road, and 6 in a row at Lehigh Valley's (Phillies) Coca-Cola Park. The Wings last won in Buffalo in the 2nd game of an April 19, 2011 doubleheader, a 2-0 triumph in 7 innings.

a The Wings were last victorious in Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, Pennsylvania on May 29, 2011, when they posted a 6-2 win. The Wings' next opportunity to end that skid is June 26-29. Perhaps the Times Union Center (formerly known as Pepsi Arena) in Albany can host a few baseball games.

LET'S RE-LIVE THAT OPENING DAY MAGIC: Since scoring a season-high 7 runs on Opening Day, April 5 at Syracuse, the Red Wings have been held to 5 runs or less in each of their last 21 games. In the 5 contests they've scored at least 5 runs, the Wings are 4-1. They are 5-12 in their other 17 games.

a The Red Wings have scored an International League-low 69 runs, 4 fewer than the next closest team, Norfolk, which has 73. The league leader is Toledo (Tigers), which has plated 125 runs, 56 more than Rochester.

a The Wings are hitting just .179 (7-for-39) with runners in scoring position during their 5-game losing streak, including a 2-for-16 mark (.125) in 2 games this series.

a The Red Wings yesterday fell to 3-4 in one-run games. Three of Rochester's last 4 games have been decided by one run and the club has been on the losing end in all 3.

ELECTING A GOOD RECORD: Looking for some positives as the Red Wings sit at a season-worst 4 games below .500, the team has actually posted a winning record in a presidential election year 2 straight times and on 4 of the last 6 occasions. The list of Rochester's records as the red and blue states battle it out:

Year Record President Elected

2008 74-70 Barack Obama

2004 73-71 George W. Bush

2000 65-79 George W. Bush

1996 72-69 Bill Clinton

1992 70-74 Bill Clinton

1988 77-64 George H.W. Bush

DIAMOND IS FOREVER: Today's starting pitcher, Scott Diamond, leads the International League with 4 wins while ranking 2nd in the circuit with a 1.07 ERA. The lefthander is the first Red Wings pitcher to win 4 consecutive starts since Johan Santana won 7 straight June 25-July 27, 2008.

a Diamond has won a career-high 4 straight starts for the 2nd time.
