Charlotte Knights News Release

(Syracuse, NY) - Matt Zaleski was sharp in his first Triple-A start since August 19, 2011, Dan Johnson hit his third home run in two days and the Charlotte Knights beat the Syracuse Chiefs 5-2 on Sunday afternoon in game three of their four-game series from Alliance Bank Stadium.

Zaleski (1-0, 2.57) started the season on Charlotte's disabled list and on April 17 was activated by the Knights. He was sent to Double-A Birmingham on the same day and posted a 0-1 mark with a 4.09 ERA in two starts for the Barons. On Friday, Zaleski was brought back to the Knights after Dylan Axelrod was recalled by the White Sox.

Today, in his 2012 Knights debut, Zaleski allowed just two runs on five hits over seven innings to earn the win. It was his first Triple-A win since July 27, 2011 when he beat the Indianapolis Indians 4-1.

Offensively, Dan Johnson once again led the way for the Knights. Johnson continued his red-hot series and hit a two-run home run in the third inning - his third home run in two days. He now has four long balls on the year and 19 RBIs -- both team highs.

Knights catcher Josh Phegley extended his hit-streak to 12 games and went 1-4 on the afternoon. Greg Golson added two hits and two RBIs and Hector Gimenez hit his second home run of the season.

Syracuse starter Yunesky Maya (1-3, 3.68) allowed all five runs and was saddled with the loss.

Knights reliever Deunte Heath pitched the final two innings to earn his first save of the season.

Charlotte (13-11) won for the second time in three games and will now look to pick up a series win from Syracuse on Monday at 7:00 p.m. LHP Charlie Leesman gets the nod for the Knights in the finale.
