Rochester Knighthawks vs. Albany Attack

February 1, 2003 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Rochester Knighthawks News Release

Game Notes: The Rochester Knighthawks battle the Central Division rival Albany Attack twice this weekend... The home-and-home series begins tonight in Rochester and ends in Albany Sunday afternoon... Tonight's 7:35 p.m. contest will be broadcast on News Talk 950 WROC and televised tape delayed on WB-16... The game will be shown at 9:30 p.m. tonight.

History: Last season, the two teams fought for the top spot in the division, with Albany winning the division title with a National Lacrosse League best 14-2 record... The 13-3 Knighthawks met the Attack in the 2002 NLL Semifinals and lost for only the second time in franchise history to their New York rival, 14-10... The Attack went on to the NLL Finals against the Toronto Rock.

All-Time Series: Rochester leads the regular-season series with a 4-1 record... Last year, the Knighthawks defeated Albany 22-16 and 17-14.

The race for the Central Division title: This season, both teams find themselves in unfamiliar surroundings as they stand as the third and fourth place teams in the Central Division... The Knighthawks (2-2) have a slim half-game lead over Albany (2-3) for third place... Both franchises are chasing the Buffalo Bandits (4-1) and the Columbus Landsharks (5-1).

The Hawks Nest: Rochester enters the game winless at home this season... After winning 15 straight at The Blue Cross Arena, which includes the playoffs, the K-Hawks have dropped both home games this season... The longest home losing streak in franchise history is three games (3/14/98 to 4/11/98)... John Grant leads the ‘Hawks with 25 points (10+15)... He is sixth in the NLL in assists per game (3.75) and points per game (6.25)... Cory Bomberry and Shawn Williams are also tied for seventh in the league with an average of 3.50 assists per game.

Going for the century mark: Rochester forward Tim Soudan is shooting for a milestone... Soudan is two games shy of 100 as a Knighthawk... More impressive is that he has played in every game in franchise history.

Albany Notes: The Albany Attack enter the game on the heels of a 14-13 loss to the Columbus Landsharks on January 17th... The Attack have already exceeded their loss total from last season... The 2-3 Attack were 14-2 during the 2001-02 campaign and finished with the best record in the NLL... The Attack made two deals this week to jumpstart their team, acquiring Rusty Kruger and Tim O'Brien from New York in exchange for Brian Bendig, Josh Coffman, Doug Shanahan and a first-round selection in the 2003 NLL Entry Draft... The Attack had acquired Bendig from New Jersey for Mike Ladourceur... Kruger had nine goals and five assists this season with New York... Both players are former Knighthawks.

Welcome back: Six Albany players once played for the Rochester Knighthawks: Rusty Kruger, Tim O'Brien, Gary Rosyski, Josh Sanderson, Shaydon Santos and Dan Teat.

Next Game: On Sunday, February 2nd, Rochester travels to Albany for a 4:00 p.m. game at the Pepsi Arena... The game will be broadcast on News Talk 950 WROC... The contest will end the regular-season series... The game is the beginning of a two-game road trip that stops in Philadelphia on Saturday, February 8th for an 8:00 p.m. start.

Next Home Game: The Knighthawks return home on Saturday, February 15th at 7:35 p.m. to host the Columbus Landsharks.
