Game Notes: On Saturday, February 9th the Rochester Knighthawks will host the rival Toronto Rock at 7:35 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena. This will be the first of two meetings this year between these two clubs. The game will be broadcast live on WYSL 1040-AM and wysl1040.com. The contest will also be televised live on Time Warner SportsNet (Channel 26).
Promotions: The first 2,500 fans can take home a poster of Steve Toll and Shawn Williams, courtesy of Molson Canadian. The game follows the Rochester Americans-San Antonio Rampage American Hockey League game at 2:05 p.m. As part of Kids' Night, the Amerks Moose and Rex the Raging Rhino will participate in a halftime contest with their mascot friends.
Head to Head: The two teams have played 22 times in the regular season with Rochester recording a 14-8 record. At home, the Knighthawks are undefeated against the Rock, posting a perfect 11-0 record. Last year the Knighthawks won all three games against the Rock. In two of the games, the Knighthawks held the Rock to just six goals.
Knighthawks Notes: The Knighthawks are currently on a three-game losing streak coming into the game versus the Rock. The Knighthawks are 1-3 for the first time in franchise history. Scott Evans is coming off an eight-point night against the Minnesota Swarm, where he racked up six goals and two assists. Evans is currently tied for first in goals on the team with point leader John Grant at 12 goals apiece. Grant currently leads the team in points with his 12 goals and 13 assists for 25 points. The playmaker on the team so far this year is Shawn Williams with 16 assists. Steve Toll is second in the NLL with 48 loose balls. Pat O'Toole has started in every game this year for the Knighthawks, posting a 1-2 record. In his last game, however, O'Toole was pulled in the second quarter after allowing 12 goals on 27 shots. Backup goalie Phil Wetherup came in and made 26 saves on 32 shots in a relief effort. The Knighthawks will be without defenseman and team captain Regy Thorpe because he underwent knee surgery on Monday.
Rock Notes: The Toronto Rock are making their first trip to The Blue Cross Arena this year. The Rock enter the game in third place in the East Division with a 3-2 record. Toronto is also riding a two-game winning streak, which includes a 14-10 win over New York on January 26th. Blaine Manning leads the Rock in points (30), goals (12) and assists (18). Next best on the team is Josh Sanderson who has 24 points (10+14). The Rocks' top goaltender is Bob Watson who has posted a 3-1 record and an 11.03 GAA.
Next Game: The Knighthawks host the Calgary Roughnecks at The Blue Cross Arena on February 16th at 7:35 p.m. in the second ever meeting between the two teams. The game will be broadcast live on WYSL 1040-AM and wysl1040.com. The contest will also be televised tape-delayed on Time Warner SportsNet (Channel 26). All the fans of 1980's bands like the Flock of Seagulls and Culture Club will enjoy the Knighthawks' Crazy '80's Night. Throughout the night there will 1980's music and prizes.
