
Rochester Defeats Wings 17-8

ROCHESTER, NY - An explosive Rochester Knighthawks offense led by Shawn Williams ten point performance (5G, 5A) defeated the Philadelphia Wings by a score of 17-8 at Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, NY. The Wings (5-5) face the Knighthawks (7-3) again tomorrow at Wachovia Center at 8 p.m.
"We really struggled offensively tonight and just looked sluggish overall," said Wings' General Manager and Head Coach Lindsay Sanderson. "We were hoping to take this game tonight to take the pressure off of tomorrow a bit. Tomorrow night's game is absolutely crucial for us."
Philadephia started the scoring with a power play goal by Sean Greenhalgh at 4:57 in the first quarter. The Knighthawks then scored six straight goals before Wings goaltender Erik Miller replaced the starting Matt Roik at 2:18 in the second quarter. The Wings scored three straight to pull within two, but Rochester scored twice more to keep an 8-4 lead going into the half. Rochester outscored Philadelphia 9-3 in the second half to secure a 17-8 win.
Leading the Wings in scoring were rookie Sean Greenhalgh with six points (4G, 2A) followed by Dan Marohl, Mark Morley and Jeff Ratcliffe all with three points (1G, 2A). Goaltender Matt Roik had 13 saves on the night while Erik Miller had 38 saves on the night.
Leading Rochester in scoring were Shawn Williams with ten points (5G, 5A), Mike Accursi and Shawn Evans with seven points (2G, 5A), John Grant and Scott Evans with six points (3G, 3A), Ryan O'Connor with three points (1G, 2A), and Steve Toll with one goal. Goaltender Pat O'Toole had 35 saves on the night.
Notes: The Philadelphia Wings acquired forward Mike Regan and a first round pick in the 2006 NLL Entry Draft today from the San Jose Stealth in exchange for forward Luke Wiles and defenseman Chad Thompson.
