(Rochester, September 9)... After selecting Sid Smith No. 1 overall and Ilija Gajic second overall, the Rochester Knighthawks completed the 2009 National Lacrosse League Entry Draft with five more picks.

With the 18th overall pick (second round), Rochester selected defenseman Holden Vyse, 21, from Six Nations Arrows (Junior "A"). This past summer, he recorded 13 assists and 30 loose balls in 22 games. In his junior career, he has 29 goals and 68 assists in 96 games. He also won four straight Ontario Championships (2004-07) and captured the 2007 Minto Cup. Holden is the brother of Buffalo's Roger Vyse.

The Knighthawks then tabbed two players in the third round, taking Brendan Doran from Mercyhurst College with the 28th pick and Ryan Hoff from Notre Dame with the 34th pick round.

Doran, 27, played defense for the Lakers from 2002 to 2005. Doran of Cincinnati, Ohio, was a 2004 and 2005 Division II Honorable Mention All-American. Doran played in every game in his four years with the Lakers and led the Lakers defense to a goals-against-average of 8.21, which was eighth best in Division II. He was twice named captain of the team and finished his career as one of the most complete defensemen ever to wear a Lakers uniform. He finished the 2005 season fourth on the team with 35 ground balls and second on the team with 17 caused turnovers.

Hoff played attack for four seasons at the University of Notre Dame (2006-09) and concluded his career ranked second on Notre Dame's all-time career goals list with 134. The three-time All-GWLL first-team selection never missed a contest en route to playing in a program-record 63 games during his career. In 2009, he led the Irish in goals in 2009 for the third straight season as he notched 32 tallies. The Baldwin, Md., native was a two-time All-American. Hoff was taken by the Chicago Machine with the first pick in the third round (17th overall pick) of the Major League Lacrosse Draft this summer.

Rochester used the 47th pick (fifth round) to pick Dan Groot from the University of Maryland and a native of Canandaigua. Groot was a two-time All-American at Maryland in his four-year career (2006-09). He played in 65 games and recorded 49 goals and 45 assists. In 2009, he led all Maryland midfielders with 35 points on 21 goals and 14 assists. In addition to his offensive contributions, he picked up 23 ground balls.

Rochester ended the draft by picking Brandon Corp out of Colgate with the 57th pick (sixth round). Corp, a Chittenango, NY, native ended his four-year career (2006-09) with 194 points (127 +67), both his points and goals rank second all-time in Colgate history and first in the Division I era.

Corp, 22, recently was named to the All-American first team following his senior season in 2009. The three-time Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year, Corp had another standout season at attack for the Raiders. He paced the Patriot League with 35 goals and 28 assists for 63 points. A four-time all-Patriot League selection, he was also the first Raider to be named a nominee for the Tewaraaton Trophy. His personal-best 63 points this season placed him third in the nation in scoring averaging 4.20 points per game. He was also drafted by the Boston Cannons fourth overall by the Boston Cannons in the 2009 MLL Draft.
