
Rochester Takes Gajic With Second Overall Pick

(Rochester, September 9)... The Rochester Knighthawks used the second overall pick to select Ilija Gajic from New Westminster and the University of Denver. The forward/transition man is currently playing for the Mann Cup with the New Westminster Salmonbellies.
Gajic was named the winner of the Bill Ellison Trophy as the Western Lacrosse Association Playoff MVP. In 2008 he was named a Second Team All-Star in the WLA Senior "A" series. Gajic is a former captain of some legendary Burnaby Jr. Lakers teams. He also played on three national championship teams, winning Minto Cups in 2002, 2004 and 2005. In 2006, he was the recipient of the Delmonica Trophy as the MVP of the BCLA Junior "A" series and a First Team All-Star. He also won the John Urbin Award as the top graduating player in the BCLA series. Further, he was awarded the Al Boles Memorial Trophy as the league's Most Inspirational Player. In 2005, he was the winner of the McConaghy Memorial Trophy as the Minto Cup MVP. In his junior career, he recorded 134 goals and 190 assists for 324 points in 125 games (regular season and playoff) from 2002 to 2006.
Gajic played two seasons of college lacrosse for the University of Denver (2007-08) and spent one season with Butler University (2006). In 2008, he was an All-Great Western Lacrosse League Second Team honoree. In 2007, he played in all 16 games and recorded 24 goals and nine assists for 33 points, second most on the team.
The Knighthawks have a total of seven picks in the draft, including the 18th overall pick in the second round and the 28th and 34th picks in the third round. Rochester will be excluded from the fourth round and will complete its selections with the 47th and 57th picks in the fifth and sixth round, respectively.
