Robinson Notches Another Game Winner in Missouri

Independence, MO (February 25th) - Matt Robinson scored twice and Adam Russo made key saves down the stretch to preserve a 3-2 win for Wichita (35-15-2) over rival Missouri (29-18-5) on Saturday night at the Independence Event Center. Wichita stopped a two-game slide, claimed all four games at the IEC and pushed its record to 6-2-0 this season against the Mavericks.
Wichita grabbed the first lead of the game as Matt Summers (16) scored a power play goal with just under six minutes into the period. Wichita worked the puck around, Kevin Seibel fired a one-timer and Summers gobbled up the rebound. The Mavericks responded with a power play tally three minutes later as Andrew Courtney found a loose puck and put it home to tie the game at one. At 16:26, Matt Robinson (26) crashed the net and put home a centering feed from Aaron Davis and gave the Thunder a 2-1 lead through the first 20 minutes.
In the third, Matt Robinson (27) extended the Wichita lead to 3-1 after Beauregard's one-timer hit off of Mavs starter Charlie Effinger and Robinson put it home for what turned out to be the game-winner. David Simoes cut the lead back to one about two minutes later after he kept the puck in the zone and walked to the top of the left wing circle to make it 3-2. Missouri pulled its goaltender, but was unable to generate anything with the extra attacker and the Thunder hung on for the victory.
Robinson notched his eighth game-winning-goal of the season, which puts him alone in first in that category. He also recorded his third multi-goal game in February and sixth of the season. Summers extended his point scoring streak to six games. Beauregard and Seibel each had two helpers to pace the Thunder. Adam Russo earned his 23rd win of the year, stopping 35 of 37 shots he faced and now sits alone in third place in wins.
