Rio Grande Valley Dorados News Release
HIDALGO, TX: April 26, 2005 â arenafootball2 announced their weekly awards for Week 4 action and Rio Grande Valley Dorados fullback/linebacker Chris Robinson earned US Army Ironman of the Week honors. Robinson, a 6'3" 260-pound native of Medford, New York, was a major contributor to the Dorados 40-32 road win Friday night over the Bakersfield Blitz to give the Dorados a 1-0 division record and their first win of the season. Trailing 14-0 to the Blitz, Robinson and the Dorados picked up 10 quick points with a safety on the first play of the second quarter and then a 12-yard rushing touchdown on the ensuing drive. The University of New Hampshire product finished the game with an af2 season high and Dorados single-game franchise high 44 rushing yards. Robinson currently ranks second in the af2 with 79 rushing yards on the season. On the defensive side, Robinson finished the game with a pair of sacks and a team-leading 3.5 tackles. The two sacks place him tied for sixth in the af2 in that department.
The honor is the second time he has received the award and the first during the regular season. As an af2 rookie last season with the Peoria Pirates, Robinson claimed af2 US Army Ironman of the Week honors in the playoffs in a Pirates win over Tulsa. Robinson becomes the first ever Dorado to claim the US Army Ironman of the Week award and the third different individual to receive an af2 weekly award. Last season, Karleton Thomas received ADT Defensive Player of the Game in Week 1 and Eddie Motten received the same honor for Week 14 and 18. Media members seeking an interview with Robinson and/or Dorados Head Coach Kevin Guy are encouraged to contact Chris Due with the Dorados at 956-843-5656.
The Dorados next home game will be May 2nd, as the Dorados host the Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings for some Monday night football at Chase Field inside the Dodge Arena. Individual tickets for the game and all other home games are already on sale. Season ticket packages and advertising opportunities are still available by contacting the Dorados offices at 956-843-7825.
