TAMPA, Fla. - Lexington SC defender Tate Robertson was named USL League One Week 14 Player of the Week the league office announced Tuesday. The club tallied a staggering five players on the Team of the Week, as well.
Will Baynham joined Robertson on Team of the Week, while Owen Green, Don Smart and Ates Diouf each featured on the Team of the Week Bench.
Playing two games in one week, Lexington SC reached a 2-0 win over Chattanooga Red Wolves SC at home before earning a 2-2 draw on the road against the top team in the league, North Carolina FC.
Robertson earned an assist against the Red Wolves before scoring his first goal of the season from a free kick against North Carolina FC. On defense he combined for nine clearances across both games.
Robertson was the fourth unique Player of the Week for Lexington SC, which is still in its first season as a club. He joined goalkeeper Amal Knight, Diouf and Green.
As for Baynham, after returning from an injury the Aussie started in both matches for Lexington, scoring his first goal of the season against North Carolina FC.
Green held down the fort on the defensive side of the ball, amassing five clearances across both games. He was part of the strong back line, along with Robertson, that ensured that Knight did not have to make a single save against the Red Wolves, holding Chattanooga to no shots on target.
Smart, a veteran presence on the team, returned to the starting lineup for Lexington and took advantage of the opportunity, finding the back of the net against Chattanooga with a penalty kick. Smart stands at 3-3 from the spot on the season.
Diouf was the final player to feature after putting up five shots on Chattanooga, including one on target, and drawing the aforementioned penalty that Smart would send into the net. The penalty was pivotal in seeing Lexington earn its first ever two-goal win in club history.
The strong week saw Lexington SC extend its unbeaten streak to five games, the longest streak in club history. The club will look to keep its momentum going on the road against Forward Madison FC on Thursday before returning home to face Tormenta FC on July 2.
