EDINBURG- Joe Weik scored the winning run from first base on an opposite field single from Derrek Perren and an error by left fielder Bryan Marquez in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Edinburg Roadrunners a 6-5 victory and the United Division championship at Edinburg Baseball Stadium Wednesday night.

After Marquez scored the tying run in the top of the ninth off Robert Roth (1-0), Nick Lenzendorf was brought on in the bottom of the ninth for the WhiteWings (50-40). Lenzendorf (3-2) was then greeted by Carlos Hereaud with a single, but Joe Weik forced him at second on a groundout to shortstop Leugim Barroso before the final drama began.

The Roadrunners (56-35) initially came back from a 3-0 deficit by plating five runs in the bottom of the sixth off Luis Noel, but the WhiteWings came back with a single run in the eighth on an Alex Ruiz triple and sacrifice fly from Welinson Baez off Rusty Jones, who relieved Tetsuya Iwasaki, who went seven innings in his first start of the year. Barroso's fourth hit of the day plated Marquez with one out in the top of the ninth.

With the victory the Roadrunners clinch home field advantage in the playoffs, including a potential third and deciding game in the first round of the North American Baseball League's United Division playoffs to be played on Thursday, Sept. 6.

The two teams will open the first round of the playoffs on Tuesday, Sept. 4 at Harlingen Field at 7:05 p.m. and play the second game of a scheduled three game series in Edinburg Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. as well. --750031334-994421516-1346296295=:58204
