Springfield Jr. Blues News Release
The Roadrunners are in town for a two game series tonight and tomorrow. Last year they won the South Division, and they will host the Robertson Cup playoffs this year, but they have struggled in this early season and find themselves in unfamiliar territory at fourth in the South Division. The Jr. Blues, on the other hand are sitting in third place in the North Division and tonight should be a terrific hockey game against old rivals.
Ethan Nauman has found scoring a difficult prospect, at best, of late, but still sits in second place in the NAHL scoring. We all would like to see him break out tonight and maybe then he will quit pressing so hard. It's always easier said than done, but Ethan needs to relax, have fun, continue to play hard and the points will come. Defenseman Smilin' Jack Callahan sits at number two in the NAHL in scoring by defensemen. Both of these guys are fun to watch, as are all the good guys, and good things will happen for them if they keep on keepin' on. Let's Go Blues!
The team's thoughts and prayers are still lifted up for Coach Maher and his family. Andy's Dad is now in hospice care, so please keep his family in your prayers, too.
Tonight is the Jr. Blues' 20th game of the season, and as hard as they've been working both on and off the ice Coach Dibble gave them Monday off to rest up. We'll see if it has helped tonight.
What a great first period of play by the Springfield Jr. Blues. The rest certainly made a difference in the first as Chris Sitler tickled the back of the net on a pass from Mike Fallon and T.J. Poganski at 5:43 of the first. The puck control and passing has been excellent during the first 20 minutes, along with the defensive play. The good guys scored again with 17 seconds left in the period to go up 2 - 0, and that is how it stands at the first intermission.
Second period brought us more fast, hard fought action. Topeka scored about half way through the period to make it a one goal game, but that just seemed to make the Jr. Blues fight that much harder. After a couple of fights things settled down a bit, but there still is no love lost between these two teams. The Jr. Blues look hungry for a win tonight, and if they continue to fight for the puck like the first two periods they can do it. The second period was filled with whistles as penalty after penalty was called. It seemed like most of the game was played by one team or the other on a power play. Period three is on the way, Let's Go Blues!!!
Wow!! What a final period this was!! The Roadrunners came back with two quick goals to tie the game and then take the lead, only to see the good guys come back, tie the game, then take the lead before Gavin Tufte scored an empty netter from the red line to make the score 5 - 3. This team has HEART! They will leave everything on the ice and go from the initial face off to the final horn with everything they have. They are fun to watch because they will not quit no matter what the score board reads. This team is special and they have talent. They may be young but they are an extremely talented group. The defense was smothering tonight, and they are as responsible for this win as the guys who scored the goals. TotalsChris Sitler, 2 goals, T.J. Poganski 1 goal, 1 assist, Mike Fallon, 2 Assists, Taylor Wolfe an assist, Shayne McLaughlin an assist.
The Jr. Blues out played a very good Topeka team tonight. They square off again tomorrow night at 7:00 pm and if at all possible you need to come out and get excited about this team. They are special!
