The Corpus Christi IceRays' losing streak hit five games as they dropped a 5-0 decision to the Wichita Falls Wildcats Saturday night at the Kay Yeager Coliseum. Goaltender Eric Garavaglia was strong in the net for Wichita Falls as he picked up a 35-save shutout for his efforts.
Navarone Copley and Cody Milligan were the two bright spots for the Rays as they combined for 14 shots on the night.
For the second game in a row, the Wildcats' Dakota Klecha (9) tallied to start the scoring at the 8:09 mark of the first period. It was the only goal of the period as the Wildcats outshot the IceRays, 13-7.
The second period saw two more go into the back of the net for the Wildcats as Sean Keane (10) and Mac Olson (11) each received assists from Ryan Frost to put the âCats on top, 3-0. Mikhail Sentyurin and Kevin Crowe were each ejected for separate checking penalties in the period. Shots were 21-15 in favor of Wichita Falls.
In the third period, the Wildcats tacked on two more goals when Frost (4) and Jason McAloon (5) scored 47 seconds apart midway through the period to cap the scoring at 5-0 for the Wildcats. Corpus Christi held the shot advantage, 13-10, but could not capitalize on their strong third period efforts.
With the win, the Wildcats improve to 12-3-2 (26 points) while the IceRays fall to 6-8-2 (14 points) with the loss.
Corpus Christi and Wichita Falls now head south to the American Bank Center where they will meet on Thursday and Friday nights at 7:05 PM. Thursday night is Faith and Family Night with a special pre-game and intermission performance from local Christian rock group "Shake the Nation." Tickets start at $8 in the reserved seating section. Friday night is Frosty Friday with 22 oz. domestic draft beers and sodas each half off their regular prices.
