
Roadrunners Split with Broncos

EDINBURG, Texas---The Edinburg Roadrunners split the four-game series with the Laredo Broncos after a 6-2 loss Sunday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
In the top of the first, a throwing error allowed Kenneth Gilbert to reach and later came into score on an RBI single by Nick Mahin. Another throwing error in the inning allowed Mahin to score from third giving Laredo the 2-0 lead.
Wilson Batista cut the Broncos lead to one in the bottom of the first with a solo home run off of starter Brian Buchanan (2-1) making it a 2-1 ball game.
Laredo (6-12) extended their lead in the top of the fourth with an RBI single by Gabriel Memmert that drove in Doug Thennis from second. Ryan Flynn followed with a sacrifice fly that allowed Memmert to score making it 4-1.
The Roadrunners (13-5) got a run in the bottom of the fifth with an Alexis Hernandez home run cutting the Broncos lead 4-2.
Errors in the top of the eighth inning allowed Laredo to add two more runs against Edinburg starter Mark DiBernardo (2-1) extending their lead 6-2.
Vinnie Dechristofaro picked up his third save of the season after pitching an inning and two-thirds, including a scoreless ninth giving the Broncos the 6-2 victory.
The Roadrunners will play the first game of a 12-game road trip Monday night at Richard M. Borchard Fairgrounds Field. Eric Montoya (2-1) is expected to start for Edinburg with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
