San Angelo Colts News Release

San Angelo, TX - *Colts leftfielder Jason Crosland's return from the inactive list proved to be the difference Sunday night as his two homers and six RBI gaves the Colts a 17-9 victory over Amarillo. The win gave the Colts the series victory as they took three of four games from the Dillas at Foster Field over the weekend.

Once again, the Colts found themselves in an early hole as a six-run first inning allowed Amarillo to take an early 6-0 lead over San Angelo starter Aaron Cunningham. With the bases loaded and one out, designated hitter Alberto Cruz doubled in two runs as the Dillas drew first blood. Later in the frame, the Dillas reloaded the bases and third baseman Matt Cieriani did the damage with a grandslam homerun (2) over the left field wall to give Amarillo a 6-0 lead.

The Colts responded in the bottom half with an RBI single from first baseman Josh Collazzo to get on the board. The Dillas, however, would get the run back in the third as a throwing error on a stolen base attempt allowed for Stephen Douglas to score from second and give the Dillas a 7-1 lead.

San Angelo came storming back with seven runs in the fourth to garner the lead. RBI singles by designated hitter John Wagle and Collazzo scored the first two runs of the inning before rightfielder Adam Hale doubled in two more runs to make the score 7-5. That set the stage for Crosland's first homer, a three-run blast (4), which made the score 8-7.

The Colts were not done however, as they would plate eight more runs in the sixth. Crosland added two more runs with a single, while shortstop Butch Ballez chipped in with an RBI of his own on a single. Centerfielder Ronnie Gaines followed Ballez's hit with a two-run double before an RBI groundout by Mark Ramos completed the Colts' eight-run barrage.

Crosland continued his attack on Amarillo pitching as he smacked his second homer of the game, and fifth of the season, with a solo shot in the seventh to make the score 17-7.

The Dillas would add solo homers by rightfielder Kyle Hobbs (1) in the eighth, and Cruz (2) in the ninth to make the final score 17-9.

Aaron Cunningham got the win to move to 1-2. After giving up six runs in the first inning, Cunningham settled down to allow only one run on four hits the rest of the way. Taylor Allen (1-2) took the loss for Amarillo after giving up eight ER in 3.2 innings on 10 hits.

The Colts now hit the road for a four-game series in Laredo against the Broncos. Alex Morales will make his season debut for the Colts tomorrow against a pitcher yet to be determined for the Broncos. The game can be heard on 1260 KKSA with the pregame show getting things started at 7:15. First pitch is at 7:30.
