St. George RoadRunners News Release
RENO - The RoadRunners ended their week long road trip with a doubleheader split at Peccole Park on Saturday.
In game one, RoadRunners starter Marcos Carvajal ran into early trouble and could not rebound. Reno knocked around Carvajal for nine runs, eight earned, over five innings en route to a 9-3 victory.
The Silver Sox got a solid spot start from Andrew Alvarado. Kevin Frederick relieved in the fifth and got credit for the win. It was the first win for Reno against STG at Peccole.
Game two provided a nugget of RoadRunners history as the trio of starter Gregorio Martinez and relievers Anthony Pluta & Jason Norderum completed a two-hit shutout of Reno.
Martinez threw five sparkling innings and got plenty of offensive support. He allowed two singles to Steve Alexander and John Hattig. Pluta and Norderum did not allow a hit over the final two frames to secure the win.
Offensively, the RoadRunners had five extra-base hits. RBI doubles by Juan Serrano, Cody Nowlin and Seth Loman came in the first three innings. Angel Sanchez provided the final blow with a three-run homer to centerfield off lefty Bart Braun in the sixth.
The RoadRunners record moved to 16-15 on the second half with the DH split.
