HARLINGEN, Texas- The Edinburg Roadrunners hit their way to a game four victory splitting the series at two games by defeating The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings 9-5 Thursday night at Harlingen Field.

Edinburg's Bobby Rinard led off the top of the first inning with a single, a batter later Fernando Del Santos belted an RBI single scoring Rinard giving the Roadrunners a quick 1-0 lead.

After a walk from Agustin Septimo and a base hit from Del Los Santos, Carlton Salters then came to the plate a smashed an 2 RBI triple scoring both Septimo and Del Los Santos extending the lead to 3-0.

The Roadrunners would score six runs on seven hits in the first inning giving them a comfortable lead in the early going.

Aaron Gates put the WhiteWings on the board in the bottom of the first with a towering home run to right field making it a 6-1 game.

Edinburg's starting pitcher Maximino De La Cruz (1-1) earned his first win of the year going six innings allowing five runs on eight hits. WhiteWings starter Bobby O'Neill (2-2) was charged with his second loss of the year pitching six innings allowing 13 hits on eight runs.

In the seventh inning the WhiteWings made things interesting after back to back singles from Johnny Bowden and Troy Zawadzki. With one out in the inning Wings left fielder Albert Carpen belted a clutch two run RBI triple scoring both Bowden and Zawadzki cutting the deflect to 8-4.

That was a close as the WhiteWings would get as they split the opening series two games even.

The second series continues Friday from Edinburg Baseball Stadium for a four game series, Brett Kennedy will be the game one starter. First pitch is 7:05 p.m.
