Edinburg Salvages Split

HARLINGEN, Texas - The Edinburg Roadrunners defeated the Rio Grande Valley White Wings by a score of 9-5 on Thursday night at Harlingen Field to salvage the four game series split.

The Roadrunners (9-11) scored six times in the first inning when the entire line-up batted around, but it was Carlton Salters two run triple that opened the flood gates.

Salters went 3-for-5 on the evening with two RBIs while being a homerun short of the cycle, but it was Austin Fraker that paved the way offensively for Edinburg when he went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two doubles.

Edinburg would score a pair of runs in the third inning and another run in the seventh inning. Edinburg's lineup had each batter reach safely and scored a run in the process.

The White Wings (10-10) got on the board in the bottom of the first inning when Aaron Gates hit his third homerun of the season to make a 6-1 game.

Rio Grande Valley would strike again in the third inning when Albert Carpen hit an RBI fielder's choice to make it an 8-2 game.

The White Wings made a small rally in the seventh inning when Carpen hit a two run triple to trim the deficit to 9-4. Carpen would then score on a Michael Garcia RBI single that capped the scoring.

Maximino de la Cruz (1-1) earned the win for Edinburg going six and two thirds of an inning and gave up five runs with four strikeouts.

Bobby O'Neill (2-2) took the loss for Rio Grande Valley going six innings, giving up seven earned runs.

The Roadrunners will have a 20 game home stand starting on Friday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium when they will host the Rio Grande Valley White Wings in four game series with the first pitch set for 7:05 pm.

The next home game for the Roadrunners will be on Friday, June 14 as they will host the RGV White Wings and it will be RGV CALA Thunder sticks Night where the first 1,000 fans thru the gates will receive a pair.
