Phoenix RoadRunners News Release
PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Phoenix RoadRunners of the ECHL, an affiliate of the Phoenix Coyotes and the San Antonio Rampage, are pleased to announce that the club was able to donate $75,811 in cash, tickets, and memorabilia during the 2006-07 season to local non-profit organizations throughout Arizona.
In their first two seasons, the RoadRunners have raised a total of $208,470 for local charities.
Highlighting the RoadRunners' fundraising efforts this year was the organization's inaugural "Face-Off Against Kids Cancer", a three-month event culminated by a live jersey auction that raised nearly $20,000 for the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Phoenix Children's Hospital and Caps For Kids, a national non-profit organization which provides hats autographed by athletes and celebrities to children who lose their hair due to the effects of chemotherapy.
The top selling jersey belonged to RoadRunners goaltender Cody Rudkowsky, whose #30 sweater was purchased for $1,500.
The RoadRunners also honored several of the "Face-Off Against Kids Cancer" participants from Phoenix Children's prior to their March 17 home game against Las Vegas, and each child in the program received a personalized RoadRunners' jersey with their name inscribed on the back.
The RoadRunners also raised $6,000 through their first ever Corporate Hat Trick Program. The RoadRunners' Corporate Hat-Trick Program allows Phoenix area businesses to send underprivileged boys and girls in the community to RoadRunners' home games.
Other fundraising events included the annual "Teddy Bear Toss", which benefited the Maricopa County Head Start Program, the Shoot For Goals Achievement Program, which recognizes students across Arizona for their scholastic endeavors, and the "Phoenix Suns" game-worn jersey auction.
The RoadRunners return to US Airways Center at 7:11 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19 when they host the Utah Grizzlies to commence their third season in the desert. Information on season tickets, half-season packages, and flex plans for the 2007-08 season of Phoenix RoadRunners Hockey are available by calling (602) 462-GOAL.
