Roadrunners Outlast Dillas in Victory

EDINBURG, Texas---The Edinburg Roadrunners defeated the Amarillo Dillas 4-3 in a pitcher's duel Thursday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium in front of 3,842 in attendance.

Wardell Starling and Ronald Lowe worked deep into the ball game after both pitchers gave up three runs in their outings.

The Roadrunners (39-24) scored against Lowe in the first inning. Felix Molina got aboard with an infield single and then moved to second after Nelson Teilon was walked. Ambiorix Concepcion followed with a single to right field to load the bases. One out later, Carlos Hereaud hit a two-run single allowing Molina and Teilon to score giving Edinburg the 2-0 lead.

The Dillas (38-30) got on the board in the top of the third on an RBI single by Julio Perez that allowed Adam De La Garza to score from third cutting the Roadrunners lead 2-1.

Edinburg answered back in the bottom of the third with a run of their own. Concepcion hit a two-out single and then stole second base. Wilson Batista then hit an RBI single to left field that allowed Concepcion to score making it 3-1 Roadrunners.

In the top of the sixth, the Dillas had runners on the corners with one out. Brian Bueno then hit a fielder's choice that allowed Stephen Douglas and Alberto Cruz to score tying the ball game at three.

In the bottom of the eighth, Concepcion hit a one-out triple to left field off of reliever Tyler Pearson (4-1). After an intentional walk to Batista and a walk to Hereaud, Alexis Hernandez hit a sacrifice fly to center allowing Concepcion to score giving the Roadrunners the 4-3 lead.

Julio Castro pitched a scoreless ninth picking up his league leading 16thsave of the season and giving Edinburg the 4-3 victory.

Aaron Guerra (5-1) picked up his fifth victory of the season after pitching an inning and a third of relief.

The Roadrunners and Dillas will wrap up their four-game series Friday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Eric Montoya (8-2) is expected to face Ralph Roberts (4-3) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
