
Roadrunners Extend Winning Streak to Three

EDINBURG, TEXAS ---- The Edinburg Roadrunners extended their winning streak to three games with a 4-3 victory over the Coastal Bend Thunder at the Edinburg Baseball Stadium on Tuesday night.
Eric Montoya (3-1) picked up the win after he allowed two runs, one earned, while scattering eight hits in seven innings of work and striking out six.
The Roadrunners (22-24) got the scoring started in the bottom of the second inning on a sacrifice fly by Osiel Flores that scored Bryon Smith from third for a 1-0 lead.
Coastal Bend (21-25) tied things up at one in top of the third inning on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Manny Mejia that allowed Alfred Joseph to score from third.
Robert Matlock led off the bottom of the third inning with a single to right field then came around to score on an RBI double by Carlos Hereaud which gave the Roadrunners a 2-1 advantage.
In the top of the fifth inning, Coastal Bend tied things up once again on an RBI single by Joseph that allowed Chris Lewis to score that made it 2-2.
Hereaud hit his third home run of the season in the bottom of the sixth inning off of Coastal Bend starter Toro Trevino (4-3) that gave the Roadrunners a 3-2 lead.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, Matlock tripled to deep right field and then came into to score on an RBI single by Hereaud that extended Edinburg's lead 4-2.
Kelly Casares came in to close the ninth but after loading the bases was replaced by Aaron Guerra who allowed an RBI fielder's choice and struck out Leivi Ventura for the final out to give the Roadrunners the 4-3 win.
Edinburg and Coastal Bend will play the third game of this four-game series on Wednesday night at the Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Tim Haines (4-4) is expected to face Frank James (3-1) with the first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
